Quiet Before the Storm…
The eastern half of the nation is very quiet this morning. My brother called me and said they had 1 foot of snow though yesterday. He lived in San Diego for years and this is taking some getting used to. The kids love it though.
Fog is a problem in the midwest; especially the panhandle of Texas that got so much snow yesterday. Snow is also occurring in the Northwest. California looks quiet though. A much needed rest from Pacific storm after Pacific storm.

A Deluge…
Boy, did we have rain. It is still misting heavily as I walked out to the mailbox. No wonder Maggie has spent the day inside. We got wet on our walk. Maggie looked like a wet rat. Interestingly, the radar shows no precipitation. I guess it is too light to pick up any echoes.
Our next rain comes in Monday night with only light changes (20%). Temperatures should be quite cool with lows below freezing and only in the forties and fifties in the afternoon. This will make for some cold walks for Maggie and I.
I am ready for spring! How about you? Soon, the daffodils will be poking up and my camellia bush is about to bloom. I am ready for green grass and leafy trees.

Snow Near Amarillo…
Well, the panhandle of Texas is getting hammered today with heavy snow. My good blogging friend, Annabel, posted some pictures of the snow on her blog. Here they are…
Bracing for Winter Weather to our North…
The National Weather Service is always so very conservative with their forecasts. They are predicting a 10% chance of rain rolling in tonight. I suspect the coverage will be broader and wider; with the rain moving in quicker. Boy, has this El Nino got us on the fast track to lots of rain every few days. With the southerly jet stream active, we are getting storm after storm, and even thunder in January and that’s pretty rare.
Those to our North are bracing for a winter storm. It will be iffy if northern Alabama gets in on the action. Especially the Alabama Tennessee Valley. It will all depend on the timing of the precip and how deep the cold air is. I wouldn’t rule out some wintry mix precipitation. Man, what I wouldn’t do to hear the pitter patter of sleet on my roof.

Today’s Sunset…
Rain on the Way…
High pressure has settled over us. This will make for a chilly, but beautiful day with ample sunshine. Rain is scheduled to arrive tomorrow night with a 20% probability. Friday looks like a washout.
I am going to start back an old feature of this blog, and that is the sunset of the day. As long as it isn’t cloudy, I will post a photo late in the afternoon at sunset.
We are also under a red flag warning today meaning the humidity is low and the winds will be brisk. Any burning of leaves or underbrush is strongly discouraged. A fire could quickly get out of hand.

Current Weather Map…
Winter Storm Warning For Memphis…
As the weather turns, things change. No longer do we have winter weather in our forecast. I think the meteorologists rely too heavily on computer models thus the constant and abrupt changes. That doesn’t hold true for Memphis though. Already, watches and warnings are up for the area. It might just be a winter wonderland is west Tennessee in a few days.
Strong Pressure Gradient…
High pressure is centered over Texas at the moment. This is setting up a pressure gradient and high winds for the South. Temperatures are running 37 degrees according to my wireless weather station right now. As soon as the sun begins to rise, the winds will pick up, and it will be a cold and brisk wind for the rest of the day.
All that said, it is going to be a beautifully sunny day today. I would be surprised to see a cloud in the sky. The high will only get up to 53 today.
Tomorrow night will be bitterly cold with a low around 25 degrees. Light winds and radiational cooling will help this. Bring in pets and sensitive plants.
SNOW!
The NWS is hinting at possible winter weather for this weekend. Friday night and Saturday to be exact. As with all possible snow events in the South, this one should be taken with a grain a salt. They are going by models and not actual forecaster’s predictions. Models change from day to day.

Weather Today and Ahead…
We had a strong storm front come through yesterday evening. I slept through it. “How could you sleep through all that thunder?” my father asked. “I guess I was tired,” I replied.
We’ve got some beautiful days ahead in the South. Should be only light frosts with highs in the fifties for the day. Our next rain chances come Thursday night and Friday. The National Weather Service has us under a small threat for severe weather at the end of the weeks. These threats usually do not pan out mostly though. Enjoy a beautiful Saturday and Sunday after the rain clears.
