From the National Weather Service forecast discussion...
THROUGH THE AFTERNOON...EXPECT THE RAIN TO CONTINUE TO SLOWLY SPREAD NORTHWARD...WITH EASTERLY FLOW CONTINUING TO USHER IN DRIER AIR TO THE NORTH AND EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE FORECAST AREA. RAINFALL AND EASTERLY FLOW WILL PREVENT TEMPERATURES FROM WARMING MUCH MORE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. HAVE ADJUSTED THE MAX TEMPERATURES DOWN...WITH MOST LOCATIONS REMAINING IN THE LOW 40S.
The temperature is just now 37 degrees before lunch with a large swath of rain moving in. It will be interesting to see if evaporative cooling comes into play. Evaporative cooling is where rain falls and evaporates in the relatively dry air. The temperature will fall trying to match the dew point. Reports of sleet across west Alabama are being widely reported at this hour. The weather guessers are saying the temps should rise into the forties after the rain starts with a breeze out of the South.
